Hiking Ireland

Ellie and Carl have walked 4,000km around Ireland along every National Waymarked Trail

There are 42 National Waymarked Trails in Ireland, with a total distance of around 4,000km. Between 17th April 2017 and 28th July 2019, Ellie Berry & Carl Lange walked every National Waymarked Trail, becoming the first people to walk them all (as far as we know of).

This project created Tough Soles, and has been documented through blog posts, videos, and photos along the way (On the map below you can see all 42 of the trails).

We’re now working our way through the County High Points of Ireland, the Ulster Way of Northern Ireland, and The Weighing In Project. Our goal is to make the outdoors more approachable for everyone, and share the amazing places that this island has to offer!

Green trails are completed trails!

Where did this idea come from?

The idea for this project was born while we were living in a tent in France a few years ago. The idea grew after we walked 1,100km through France and Spain along the Camino Del Norte - when we realised that we could have such amazing adventures in Ireland!
